Emily Rodda, childhood to now:

 Emily Rodda/ Jennifer Rowe was born on Sydney's North Shore with her two younger brothers. Her father was Jim Oswin, he was also the founding general manager of ATN7 and the creator of many great classic 1960 T.V shows. She attended a school called the Abbotsleigh School for Girls until she sat her HSC test. She got her masters of Arts in English Literature at the University of Sydney in 1973 after many years of hard work. Her first job was an assistant editor at Paul Hamilyn the publishing company. Later she went and worked as an assistant editor at a different company, Angus & Robertson publishing company. She continued working for the Angus and Robertson company for fourteen years. In those fourteen years she was an editor, senior editor, managing director, deputy publisher and finally, publisher. In those long fourteen years, besides working at the company as an editor, manager or publisher, she wrote children's books under the pseudonym Emily Rodda, her grandmothers name. Her first book, Something Special, was published in the year 1984 and was awarded the Australian Children's Book Council Book of the Year for Year for Younger Readers Award. From 1984 and 1992, Emily Rodda continued her  job as chief publisher until 1994 when she decided to become a full time writer. She now writes stories as well as consulting publishing companies. She lives in the Snowy Mountain Region in New South Wales, Australia with Bob Ryan, her husband and four children. Emily Rodda has won many awards since her first book, Something special. She has a numerous amount of awards and ribbons but a special award is the Dromkeen medallion. For more of her awards, click the awards link on my website!
